Description

This delicate green tea is from the Wu Yi district of the Fujian Province of China. It is made from the top two leaves and the bud of the first three weeks of new season growth (late March/early April). At this time of the year, jasmine bushes are in bloom. Only the most fragrant blossoms are layered between the tea leaves, imparting their delicate aroma to the leaves. The leaves are then hand-rolled into pearls that open up when infused. This tea has a pale green liquor and a lovely jasmine flavor. The aroma is perfectly heavenly! Infuse 6-8 pearls per cup in water that is 180 degrees for about three minutes. Do not remove the leaves from the cup. Add more water as needed for about three infusions or until the flavor is exhausted.

Key Characteristics
  • Appearance: The tea consists of small, tightly rolled “pearls” of tea leaves and buds. When steeped in hot water, the pearls slowly unfurl, a process sometimes called the “agony of the leaves”.
  • Aroma: It has a rich, refreshing, and intoxicatingly aromatic fragrance of jasmine flowers. The tea leaves absorb the scent of fresh jasmine blossoms during the production process.
  • Flavor: The taste is typically delicate, slightly sweet, and floral, combining the freshness of green tea with the distinct jasmine flavor.
  • Origin: Most high-quality Jasmine Dragon Pearls originate from the Fujian province in China.
  • Caffeine Level: It is a caffeinated green tea, typically with a mild caffeine level (around 30-50 mg).
  • Brewing: The pearls can often be rebrewed multiple times, with each infusion offering a slightly different flavor profile.

Sold by the 1/4 pound.
